Updated 13/09/2022:

  • All new teams start at the bottom of the ladder.
  • A team can only challenge the team immediately above them on the ladder.
  • A challenged team can forfeit the match if they feel that the challenging team is too strong for them.
  • All challenges are the best of 3 games (first to 11 points / win by 2).
  • A player can only be in a single team in any category / division (no multiple partners).

Original Rules:

  • All players must be members of PAWA to validly participate in this tournament. Become a member!
    • If a non-member player is identified, the offending team will be removed from the Bumper Board.
  • Unlike a normal tournament that usually has an element of elimination, a Bumper Board (Ladder) competition can go on indefinitely.
  • The objective for a team is to reach the highest rung of the ladder. Teams are listed as if on the rungs of a ladder.
  • The competition proceeds via a system of challenges.
  • Any team can challenge the team immediately above them on the ladder.
  • If a challenge is made:
    • The higher-placed team has an obligation to accept within a reasonable timeframe.
    • If a team refuses to accept a challenge within one (1) month, they lose their place to the challenger (unless mitigating circumstances prevent play).
  • If the lower-placed team wins the match, then:
    • The lower-placed team jumps ahead on the ladder, and replaces the challenged team in their spot.
    • The Challenged team, by default, drops one spot.
  • The previous higher-placed team can counter-challenge if they so desire, but only once within a one (1) month timeframe.
  • If the lower-placed team loses then:
    • They remain where they were and,
    • Cannot re-challenge the same team again for at least one (1) month.
  • All challenges are the best of 3 games (First to 11 points / win by 2).
  • It is free to enter, but the challenging team is to arrange the court and supply the balls.
  • Games can be played either indoor or outdoor.
  • Challenger’s must notify the PAWA Secretary of the pending game and of the results through the Bumper Board Results Update page and by using the Official Scoresheet.
  • The current table of rankings is accessible from the Bumper Board Status Page.
  • Any disputes are to be resolved at the PAWA Secretary.
  • At the end of each calendar year, the team on the top of each ladder will be formally recognised by the PAWA Committee as being the best Bumper Board team for  that category in Western Australia.

Remember... Ladder competitions can suffer problems if not all teams participate, as a seemingly good team may inadvertently “fall” down the ladder if they do not bother to challenge anyone.
